At SKV there are many occasions to celebrate but among all of them one of the most important celebrations is at the start of the new session when we welcome new sisters to a large, loving and lustrous family. Our musical entertainment began with a touch of traditional Indian orchestral music performed by our music society. This musical piece consists of many different technicalities. They are called Jhala in Miya Malharband, Uthan on Tabla in ektal with paramparagat bandish. Finally the orchestra switched from Indian classical to Bollywood with a surge of many familiar tunes. It was an entertaining orchestral extravaganza, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone! The Indian vocal society presented a ghazal about Bholenath's holi which is unique as it is played using ash. After this performance, many traditional dance forms were showcased. The segment of traditional dance forms started with Sufi Kathak - Aatma and Parmatama expressed through music and dance. Bharatnatyam-Thillana , with a touch of Krishna Bhakti. Thillana is in Geetdwani raga in Atta Tala. Bollywood with kathak flavour. Both the kathak performances were choreographed by Meghna di. The next dance performance was an Indo-Western fusion between traditional Bharatnatyam and popular Bollywood. Both the Bharatnatyam performances were choreographed by Kavita di. The Western music vocals group and choir represented and showcased different genres of music through different periods of time. This was headed by Mridhula Sekhar. From Disney and Disco to Rock, this choir brought the best of harmony, gumption and togetherness. 4 houses, 4 different genres of music a final montage of 46 students, all from 1 school, this choir took us back in time.
On April 7th, 2019 an Inter-class English poetry writing competition was held in the school during English class time. Students of all classes participated in this competition. This permitted the students to give full reign to their creativity and imagination. The images were taken from the covers of various books, and included a butterfly (for Class 6), a chess board (for Class &), a sea shore (for Class 8) birds in flight (for class 9), a breaking heart (class 10) and an abstract theme for Class 12. For four evenings running, from April 4th to April 7th, MJS hall was a regular destination of all students as they eagerly sat through an evening's entertainment at the movies. It was a reprise of an early time, before television and the internet, when cinema was a popular form of entertainment. The movie fest 2019 was much anticipated by the students, who were anxious to know what films were included in the fest this year. The event was an entertaining curtain raiser for the new session and the films that were selected were done so to appeal to a wide range of movie fans. There was the statutory Hindi movie and a mix of family dramas, romances and thrillers, as well as an animated film for the younger audience, especially the Class 6 Holding House girls, who were experiencing their first few days away from home. As the lights came up on the last picture show, there were many in the hall who longed for it to go on even further. However, the happy thought to keep in mind is that there will be more movies to come in the line-up of entertainment that SKV provides the student body. A big "thank you" to Geeta-di and all the others who worked behind the scenes.
