Our students recently concluded a highly enriching and impactful internship program at the BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Research and Education in Science and Technology (CREST). The program offered an immersive experience into the cutting-edge world of science, technology, and research.
The internship kicked off with an engaging session by Prof. Subhanshu Gupta from Washington State University, focusing on advanced topics like additive-printed flexible arrays and wideband MIMO, followed by practical lab visits to the NSDL and MMNE labs, providing insights into 2D material growth and organic transistor fabrication and testing.
Throughout the program, students gained valuable, hands-on experience:
- Clean Room Protocol: Students learned and performed the metallisation process on silicon substrates, including the practical deposition of 99.999% pure silver.
- Research & IPR: They attended an insightful session on research and innovation by Prof. Nageswara Rao (University of Hyderabad) and an informative IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) session by Dr. Radhika, IPR Manager at BITS Pilani – Hyderabad Campus, highlighting the importance of protecting ideas.
- Industry Exposure: A significant highlight was the visit to Micron Technology Operations India LLP, Hyderabad, where students learned about the testing and validation of memory chips for major consumer devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, concluding with a hands-on lab tour of advanced semiconductor processes.
A proud moment came during the group presentations on key semiconductor topics. Competing against graduate and master’s students, our own students ("Scikas") secured the top two positions:
- I Position: Jiya Khandelwal, Dhriti Jain, Samridhi Shivhare & Raseel Modi
- II Position: Harshita Mishra, Saakhi Grover, Bhavya Agarwal & Yashasvi Poddar
The program concluded with insightful talks by esteemed guests Dr. Kaveri Jain (Technical Head at Micron) and Dr. Usha (Scientist at DRDO). The students were then awarded certificates and Letters of Recommendation (LORs) by the guests, alongside Dr. Sanket Goyal, Head of CREST.
This internship proved to be a deeply educational, enriching, and impactful experience for our students, reflecting their strong foundation in STEM and their preparedness for future technologies.
